Bethesda means 'house of mercy'. However, the atmosphere in the pool did not reflect its meaning. Instead, there was competition among the patients to get into the water before anyone else. Those who were critically disabled became frustrated and angry because those who were less disabled could go ahead of them and get cured. It seems that there was a contradiction between the meaning of the name of the place and what actually happened. How is my church doing, in this pandemic situation? Do my behaviour and lifestyle reflect what my church aims to be? Is my church a place where all the members actively practice God's mercy and grace?
