The recipe for basic electroplating.
1. Gallon of Vinegar. 2. A dash of salt. 3..Zinc 4. a pinch of electricity

I don’t think there is anything particularly nasty about vinegar/zinc solutions.but use your own judgment. Wear gloves and do not breathe the fumes. There will be a small amount of chlorine gas produced by the salt. Just don’t be a wally and you’ll survive. Hydrochloric or Muriatic acid is really awful on lots of levels. It eats skin, eyes and benches and tools, the fumes cause rampant corrosion on all ferrous metals within cooee so its best done over at the neighbors house Oh and if you breathe the fumes you will think you are dying- I dont think that you should do this at home- In fact ! dont think you should do it at all. But I did and lived through it.
