This dance from Surakarta depicts a female warrior's encounter with the little giant, Cakil, who has a lower jaw longer than his upper jaw. Cakil is a Javanese addition to the Mahabharata epic; he does not appear in the original Indian version. Srikandi is at war with Cakil because she refuses to marry Cakil's master, King Jungkung Mardeya. Srikandi wins the contest, aided by a magic arrow named Dakak that belongs to Prince Arjuna. Dancers Tri Jumara and Nanda Sutrisno. Accompaniment by Sumunar Gamelan Ensemble.
