The 2025 Ford Mustang has finally arrived in Australia, with the new S650 series representing the seventh generation of the famous Pony car. Thankfully, the Blue Oval has not messed with the formula this time around, with the Mustang remaining available in coupe and convertible body-styles.

While Ecoboost turbo-petrol four-cylinder engine remains the entry-level option, the 5.0-litre Coyote naturally aspirated petrol V8 continues in the GT, while a higher-performance version of it is found under the bonnet of the new Dark Horse flagship. And yes, the six-speed manual gearbox is still available alongside a 10-speed torque-converter automatic transmission.

In this expert review, CarsGuide Deputy News Editor John Law gets behind the wheel of the new Mustang at its national media launch to find out how much better it is than its best-selling and well-regarded S550 predecessor.
