Bill Frisell "Guitars In The Space Age!" - Live at D'Jazz Nevers Festival - 2014

Guitars In The Space Age is an ode to the electric guitar as it was practiced in the sixties. This choice may seem strange coming from an innovative instrumentalist like Bill Frisell, but the smile he displays confirms his satisfaction with the direction he has taken.

He takes a nostalgic look at the music he discovered as a teenager, that of Wes Montgomery but also of Pete Seeger, the Beach Boys, the pioneers of rock and country music. Music is also about confessing for Bill Frisell who, to be perfect stylistically without losing his identity in this return to a particular period feel, surrounds himself with sizes like Greg Leisz on the pedal steel guitar.

The presence of the Telstar theme in the repertoire provides the keys to understanding the title of the concert and the album that preceded it. Guitars in The Space Age reminds us that there was a time when electric guitar literature accompanied the conquest of space.
