On December 3rd, 2022, The International Organization for Migration Port of Spain Office hosted the Global Migration Film Festival (GMFF) in recognition of International Migrants Day, which is celebrated both annually and globally on December 18th.

The film selected for the 2022 local edition was a Trinidad and Tobago documentary “Lifted” which was produced in 2019 by film maker Miquel Galofré. Set against frank conversation about diversity in Trinidad and Tobago, the film follows a day in the lives of a refugee family as they journey to a Moko Jumbie (stilt-walking) class.

Among those in attendance at the festival were members of the diplomatic corps, and senior representatives from government, academia, civil society and the migrant community. The attendees were treated to both local and migrant performers, including Moko Jumbies, burrokeets, parang, drummers, and Venezuelan musicians, all highlighting cultural integration. Another highlight at the event was a presentation of the Migrant Hero Award to Charmaine Gandhi-Andrews, Chief Immigration Officer from the IOM POS, for her many dedicated years of positive work in the field of migration.

IOM POS, Global Migration Film Festival would not be possible without, our donor and partner, the United States Department of State: Bureau of Population, Refugees, and Migration.
