The pre-war period, the rhythms of Melaju's songs were not yet widely known by the public in our land, because at that time the songs were often favored in Sumatra, Kalimantan and Tanah Melaju. But at the time of our current independence, almost all Indonesian people know it and want to learn more about Melaju songs that can be danced. Mentioned here Melaju songs, does not mean that these songs come from Malaja only.

Indeed, in the cultural and sound arts field, Indonesia and Malaja have very close ties. This is due to the workmanship Deli, Asahan, Serdang, Langkat etc. in East Sumatra, it is always related to workmanship to cemented by the land of Melaju. Traffic between Sumatra and Malaja is connected by a strait, which is called the Straits of Malacca with its calm sea where many trade boats are in tatters, such as Bugis, Chinese, Portuguese, Arabic, English boats etc. They came to these areas, only to trade, to buy the produce of the earth to be brought to their respective countries.

At that time, it was also unconsciously besides trade, there was also a cultural traffic, where the seafarers of foreign nations also had time to spread their artistic seeds in festive parties by the beach. For you understand well the songs and dances of Serampang Dua Belas Mak Inang Kampai Island, Hitam Manis, etc., there you will get there. meet the elements of dance and sound art of the immigrants.

Finally these dances and promises by the local people are combined with regional songs and arts, so that they represent the art of the Indonesian people and Malaja. In Malaja this Melaju dance was called "djoget" and in Indonesia it is now called "social dance". These dances are usually performed by male and female dancers with native clothing. Female dancers usually wear kebaja pandjang, songket cloth and colorful shawls, while male dancers use bay pots and half-pole cloths.

Until now, there have been many beautiful songs from Melaju that do not know who made them, because the people have lived in years. In the past, the Melaju dancers were called "ronggeng" by the English people, who were hindered from the notion of art. Wrong = wrong, misguided, and Gang = bandits. It is also possible that this naming was directed to the foreign sailors themselves, who danced while drunk at sea parties.

T. KAMARUL ZAMAN has a pattern of the song type that is Deli. We can listen it in this SEMPAJA song, accompanied by a simple musical arrangement and a soft agreement with the background, which can make the night quiet and become a memorable night.
