Anura Kumara Dissanayake, a significant figure in Sri Lankan politics, began his education at Thambuthegama Gamini Maha Vidyalaya and Thambuthegama Central College, where he became the first student to gain university entrance. Although he initially attended the University of Peradeniya, he transferred to the University of Kelaniya in 1992 due to threats and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Physical Science in 1995.
