The new 2025 Toyota 4Runner is a major upgrade from the bulletproof classic. Toyota's latest adventure SUV ushers in a new era of off-road enjoyment

“If it ain't broke, don't fix it,” as the saying goes, which is fitting when talking about the notoriously hard-to-damage Toyota 4Runner. Still, the current version of the rugged utility vehicle has been around for 14 years, and like any teenager, it's bound to start seeing changes.

This comes in the form of the new sixth generation Toyota 4Runner, a more powerful and intelligent adventure vehicle for the modern era.

The new 4Runner is built on the TNGA-F platform, which means it shares underpinnings with the latest Toyota Land Cruiser SUV, Tacoma pickup, and Lexus GX. The body-on-frame platform gives it the strength needed to take on repeated off-road terrain, but modern refinements will also make it comfortable on the road.

Appearance-wise, it retains the recognizable 4Runner features but with an updated look to the stock parts.


The 4Runner is powered by a 2.4-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine linked to an eight-speed automatic gearbox that replaces the 4.0-liter V6 engine found in the previous model.

Pricing hasn't been announced yet but the Toyota 4Runner is slated for launch later this year, perhaps right before its imminent launch.
