Benefits of Carbon
Performance
They do not get flat spots on impacts
They stay true - rebound back to their round shape quickly when charging technical terrain improving how the bike tracks, especially noticeable on frames with more flex in the frame, so really they track better when aggressively leaning the bike over and cornering
Accelerates faster out of turns due to stiffness
Sometimes weight - but def weight to stiff ratio is higher
Can be tuned - carbon layup to achieve a specific ride characteristic
Less pinch flats
Make steering feel sharper and more controllable
Make the bike feel more “lively” and responsive
Help you maintain speed as less energy is lost to wheel flex
Deflect predictably off obstacles

Benefits of Aluminum wheels:
Rideable when damaged, if they are not full taco
Less expensive to replace - especially if you are prone to breaking wheels - huckers run aluminum e-bike wheels and still damage them
Forgiveness due to flex

Riders who like aluminum:
Tend to destroy multiple rims in a season
Enjoy riding far from civilization
Feel the ride quality of carbon wheels is too harsh - although this is not something I have ever heard anyone say, just read it on a forum

Riders who like carbon:
Seek performance gains
Look to shed weight off the bike
Want to true wheels less often
Hate denting wheels
Have experienced no prior carbon failures
