I got this piece of Apple wood from my mom’s house in Ohio. I let it dry for quite a while, but as you’ll see in the video when I started to hollow out the core, it was steaming (that’s not smoke you’ll see). I had to put the bowl blank in an oven for a couple of days to finish the drying process. This generated some cracks in the bowl which I filled with epoxy resin.

Once I got the piece roughed out, I found a little bit of very interesting spalting which made for a nice figuring in the final piece.

Overall, I love the way this came out. Nothing fancy, just good solid woodturning techniques on a very nice piece of hardwood. Fruitwood is just so much fun to work with!
