One year ago today someone broke a window at the International Boxing Hall of Fame in upstate New York. They climbed inside the museum and broke the three main display cases, stealing all six vintage championship belts from their resting places. This belt pictured, won by Tony Zale in 1948 at Ruppert Stadium in Newark, New Jersey, is still missing. It was earned by Tony for a third round knock out of Rocky Graziano, noted as one of boxing's ten best knock outs! Also stolen was Tony's 1941 championship belt from his unanimous decision win over Georgie Abrams at Madison Square Garden within 15 rounds. In addition, four championship belts belonging to Carmen Basilio were also stolen, including his 1957 split decision win over Sugar Ray Robinson. These one-of-a-kind priceless belts represent personal achievements of Zale's and Basilio's. Once a steel mill worker and once an onion farmer, these two men are the epitome of the American Dream. Their willingness to fight for a better life, for a future for their families, to absorb blows to their faces and to their bodies, earned them these magnificent belts. Please help us find them. $15,000 reward for the return of all six belts. Please call Chief James Zophy of the Canastota Police Department at 315-697-2240. #BringBackTheBelts #theamericandream
