Valle de Oro Wildlife Refuge Albuquerque + BONUS Bosque Birding Areas!

I recently discovered that Albuquerque has the first urban wildlife refuges in the Southwest, located in Albuquerque's South Valley, Valle de Oro is a large area dedicated to wildlife preservation right along the Rio Grande River.

The surrounding community of Mountain View raised 1/2 the amount of money to but the 574 acres, to save it from being purchased by another industrial company. The Fish and Wildlife service paid for the rest. I was really impressed with the visitor center. The land is still under varying stages of restoration after decades of dairy farming.

We didn't find much in terms of wildlife on the day we visited, so I decided to bring to you several other areas along the Rio Grande Bosque in Albuquerque to find wildlife and migrating birds in the winter.

We also visited the following:

Rio Grande Nature Center: https://www.emnrd.nm.gov/spd/find-a-p...
Los Poblanos Open Space: https://www.cabq.gov/parksandrecreati...
Pueblo Montano Picnic Area & Alameda Open Space: https://www.cabq.gov/parksandrecreati...
Coronado Historic Site : https://nmhistoricsites.org/coronado
