Righteousness, in the Bible, doesn't mean what we think it means.

The jewish authors of the NT used the Greek word dikaiosune, which is usually translated as righteousness or justification, as a stand in for the Hebrew word tzedekah which means "acts of lovingkindness." You can tell this is so just from looking at the context in which the words are used. I've gone over several examples of this in previous messages.

Now we're looking at Romans 1:17 where Paul uses the word righteousness in this way, Romans 1:17 (NIV) For in the gospel the righteousness of God is revealed…

How can we tell what Paul means by "the righteousness of God"?

Paul says that in the Gospel "the righteousness of God is revealed." If we'll look at what was revealed, what appeared, what was manifested when Jesus, his disciples and the Apostle Paul proclaimed the Gospel then we'll know what "the righteousness of God" is.

SCRIPTURES WE LOOK AT IN THIS EPISODE:
Romans 1:11-18, Matthew 4:23-24, Matthew 9:35, Luke 9:10-11, Matthew 10:1, Matthew 10:7-8, Luke 9:1-6, Luke 10:9-12, Luke 10:17-20, Acts 14: 3,7,8-10,

Romans 1:17 REB(Revised English Bible)
17 because in it the righteousness of God is seen at work, beginning in faith and ending in faith; as scripture says, ‘Whoever is justified through faith shall gain life.’
