"I go faster than Chris Froome." So says 75 year old Mike Burrows in this interview. No one has had more influence on modern bicycle design in the last 40 years than Mike. His LotusSport Pursuit bike design was ridden by Chris Boardman to win in the 1992 Olympics and his Windcheetah trike broke new ground in the laidback world long ago. The World Human Powered Vehicle Championships held recently in Kent, England were billed as a celebration of Mike's 75th birthday. Mike raced one of his low racers and was honored with a large display of his past creations which were later ridden on the track by their admiring owners. Mike agreed to sit down with us for a chat (our first ever on a slag heap) and shared his thoughts about the past, present and future of bikes in general and recumbents in particular.
