Getting ready for leaf season. Checking your outdoor power equipment is necessary to extending the life of your equipment. Small engine repairs and maintenance such as lawnmowers, chainsaws, leaf blowers, etc. small engine maintenance is crucial for keeping your equipment running smoothly and extending their lifespan. Typically, maintaining up to date records on all you equipment will assist you with guidelines and schedules.
Regularly changing the oil as recommended by the manufacturer is usually at the beginning of each season. Clean or replace the air filter regularly. Check and replace the spark plugs as needed. A worn out spark plug can lead to poor starting and reduced power. Use fresh fuel with the appropriate octane rating. Add fuel stabilizer if the equipment will be stored for an extended period of time. Keep the engine and surrounding areas clean. Remove debris, grass, etc. around the engine and cooling fins. Ensure the cooling fins and cooling system are clean. Overheating can damage the engine. Inspect belts and cables for wear and proper tension. Replace them when necessary. Sharpen or replace blades and cutting edges regularly. Periodically inspect for oil or fuel leaks and address them promptly. Before storing small engine equipment for the winter, properly winterize it by cleaning, draining fuel and storing it in a dry place and follow the manufacturer’s recommended guidelines.
