At 3 days old, my best friend Tosha was part of a closed adoption between an unprepared teenage mother and a loving Mormon family. Growing up, she always knew that she was adopted and she had accepted it. However, as she grew older, she never felt complete with who she was. When her mother passed away from cancer, Tosha was determined in her 8-year long search for her birth mother. After posting two videos on social media asking for the world’s help in her quest, she submitted a DNA test swab to Ancestry.com. Days after receiving the results, she received a message from a woman who shared DNA with her. Unbeknownst to both of them, Tosha would soon realize that she was connecting with her paternal Grandmother who held the key to her mysterious lineage. This is how Tosha found her birth mother, Paula.
