“Elegy to Edgy”

April 17, 2022 – you crossed the rainbow bridge exactly one year ago today. It was Easter Sunday. The light on that day was particularly white and bright, and deep down, I knew it was coming. We cuddled the whole day until you took your last breath at 10:17pm.

You loved playing and being in the water so much… It was your favorite thing to do - not even French cheese and bouncy balls could compete. Over the years, you managed to build a map of all the downtown NYC fountains in your head. It quickly became impossible to walk peacefully in the streets of Manhattan, as you would just pull me there non-stop. You ended up in so many tourists’ photo albums, while playing in the water with the kids for hours during summertime. You were pure joy for anyone who crossed your path, putting a smile on even the grumpiest faces. When going to the sea, you would swim to exhaustion. You would follow me to the middle of the ocean, and when you reached my side you'd look me straight in the eye and sink like a dead weight - repeating this act over and over because you knew I would immediately come to your rescue. This was the level of trust we had in each other.

It is hard to explain how you can develop such a deep connection with “just a dog”. I cannot even explain it to myself, so I wouldn’t expect others to understand. But I am grateful to have experienced such infinite love - even if the pain of your loss is equally intense. It was all worth it though. I genuinely believe Edgy was an angel sent to me from above. She had a purpose, like we all do, and she truly saved my life a few years ago. I also know that she is still by my side, and she remains my main source of inspiration when it comes to music.

Today, to make your legacy eternal, I dedicate to you my new Royksopp remix incorporating your legendary snoring 😊 digitalized and officially becoming part of Elegie’s sound library.

To my forever number one, until “we run to the sea” together again. Love you always, mon petit canard.
