This is my 2017 Subaru Crosstrek that I've converted into a hiker-trash / dirt-bag / ski-bum basecamp on wheels. It's served me well for about 5 years and 80,000 miles.

I built out a simple camper in the back, which has been a critical part of my hiking life, allowing me to roll up to any trailhead or campsite and sleep before getting an alpine start for the day's objective. I've also lived out of the car for more extended remote-work trips, and this self-contained build has worked out great. The tailgate kitchen makes for efficient meal prep and planning for backpacking trips. The build has ample storage for shoes, gear, clothing, and climbing equipment, whatever is needed for the trip.

Around the exterior, I've used PlastiDip, Durabak, and vinyl appliques to black out the appearance of the car. I also installed a trailer hitch and Victory 4x4 roof rack that carries a Plano storage box and the stock spare tire.

Simple car camping trips have become a life saver while I recover from shoulder surgery, so I'm happy to share the details of this setup that has had a behind-the-scenes role in so many trips over the past few years.
