This video is a review of the MSR Access 2 tent. This is a lightweight 4 season tent with composite tent poles. This 2 person tent is huge and yet weighs just 1.86kg. On paper this winter tent seems to good to be true. You have the choice of using this backpacking tent as an enormous 1 person tent or you can use it as a proper two person tent.

A true four season tent should be strong, have low fly edges and have plenty of solid mesh. A 4 season backpacking tent should be able to withstand all sorts of harsh weather conditions and keep you warm too.

MSR makes some great backpacking gear. We own lots of their camping gear including other MSR tents. The MSR Access Two is MSR's winter tent. However, I do have some issues that I bring up in this video. I've not massively impressed with this tent and it looks like the new MSR Hubba Hubba may have been pulled from production too. The Easton Syclone Composite tent poles sound great but I think they are too flexible even if they are unbreakable.

This is what they say about the MSR Access 2 backpacking tent:

Built to be the ultimate shelter for backcountry skiers, splitboarders and snowshoers, the Access 2 tent is lighter than a mountaineering tent, but warmer than our backpacking tents. Limited mesh on the tent body offers greater warmth on frigid nights, while the light and packable design saves you precious energy on the climb and descent. The interior is spacious for delayering, and the strong frame resists overnight snow loading. Quick to set up, the tent offers the protection needed for camping in less severe conditions, such as those near tree-line—making it perfect for accessing the bowls, ridges and powder fields above.

Ultralight Warmth: Limited mesh on the tent body keeps in all that hard-earned warmth on cold nights, while the light design keeps you nimble while skiing, riding or hiking.

Easton® Syclone™ Poles: Advanced composite materials resist breaking in challenging winter conditions.

Robust Frame: Central-support frame optimizes interior space and resists snow loading.
Quick Setup: Unified hubbed poles make tent quick to pitch in cold environments.

Additional Features: Rainfly vents reduce condensation; Xtreme Shield™ waterproof coating for long-term durability; two doors; two internal pockets; multiple guy points.

Includes: Tent body, rainfly, poles, stakes, guy lines, easy-load, wide-mouth stuff sack, setup instructions.
