Unirii Square is the oldest historic square in Timisoara, built in the Baroque style. Throughout its history, the square has been known by different names, including Hauptplatz (Main Square), Domplatz (Cathedral Square), and Losonczy Square. The square was named Unirii Square in 1919, after the Romanian troops entered Timisoara. The square is home to several important landmarks, including the Roman Catholic Cathedral, the Baroque Palace, the Serbian Orthodox Cathedral, the Brück House, the Holy Trinity Monument, and a mineral water fountain.
The Roman Catholic Cathedral, built in 1736, is one of the most impressive buildings in the square. The Baroque Palace, constructed in 1754, was initially the seat of the Banat's governors. The Serbian Orthodox Cathedral, built between 1745 and 1748, is another notable landmark in the square. The Brück House, built in 1910, is a beautiful example of Secession architecture. The Holy Trinity Monument, erected in 1740, commemorates the end of the plague that devastated Banat between 1731 and 1738.
