City center with charming streets and squares lined with traditional shops and cafes.

Other of the main attractions is the Praça da Fruta, a bustling market square. The only daily vegetable and fruit market in the country takes place every day, in the morning, outdoors, practically unchanged since the end of the 19th century .

Architecture reflects royal heritage, with elegant buildings and churches.

Visitors can learn about the city's history at the Museu José Malhoa and the Museu do Hospital e das Caldas.
