Thank you to veteran Jon Miles for taking the time to talk to us today. Jon Miles, has always been a close supporter of Casa Maria, currently serving as a board member. He has also been a longtime fighter for social justice within the Tucson community. After being drafted into the army and personally experiencing the horrors of war, Jon returned home with a new perspective on the war, and the U.S. military and became heavily involved in the anti-war movement. He was also a leader in the Steelworkers Union, and became a trained peacekeeper with the United Farm Workers, even leading a peacekeeping team for Cesar Chavez when he came to Tucson for a rally. Today, Jon is an active member of the Tucson chapter of Veterans for Peace, and once served as president of the organization. As Jon says “It’s okay to honor veterans, but not the war”. Veterans experience first hand the cost of war; not only the physical cost, but the economic cost. We are honored to have Jon be part of the Casa Maria family and are inspired by his resilience courage to stand up for peace across the world. We wish him and all veterans who have been forced to fight the rich man’s wars a happy Veterans Day. #veteransforpeace #abolishwar
