I decided to try to make my own oil extractor using a pail and my shop vac.
I have seen these commercially and as usual I wanted to design my own to suit my specific needs.
This worked rather well. Although it did take 15 minutes to drain a gallon of oil from my bike, I found that it would have gone faster if I started with a larger hose first to get the bulk of the oil out, and also it is important to warm the oil first so it flows easier.
I will try that next time. I love making my own devices. It gives me a great sense of satisfaction.
Depending on the power of the ship vac that you are going to use, you might have to lower the power of it by plugging it into a variable speed control module that you can get at hardware stores like this one:
