Population centers and their surrounding areas have high economic and social integration, sharing in industry, infrastructure, and housing.

The growth of metropolitan areas is not surprising, given high levels of urbanization globally.
Around 68% of the world's population is expected to live in urban areas by 2050. People are interested in moving to cities, because of the job market and the hope of higher incomes. Additionally, mass adoption of the internet, related technologies, and the need for innovation through collaboration have attracted millennials to move to cities.
