Songkran is the Thai New Year's festival held every April, also known as the Water Festival. It is celebrated throughout Thailand, with particularly grand celebrations in major cities like Bangkok, Chiang Mai, and Pattaya.
Khao San Road is a very popular area to celebrate Songkran.

Originally, Songkran involved the ritual of sprinkling water on Buddha statues for purification and extending this gesture to family and friends to wish them luck and blessings.

During the festival, people take to the streets with water guns and buckets, playfully splashing water on each other. This act symbolizes washing away misfortune and welcoming the new year with a fresh start.
