7. Entre Plume et Sable (1999), Pascale Jakubowski
Jakubowski was born in Algeria, and her family left the country when she was very young due to the Algerian Revolution. She has since rediscovered the music of the indigenous people of Africa. She references many of the techniques frequently demonstrated by these people in this piece, the title of which translates to “Between Feather and Sand.” This title creates a juxtaposition between two contrasting elements, the air and the Earth, and finding a place between them.
