School teachers from around the state of Florida visited our Montbrook fossil dig to get hands-on experience working in an active dig and bring that experience back to their classrooms. The dig site is a 5-to 6-million-year-old river deposit located in Levy County that the Florida Museum has been excavating for several years.
It was a chilly, windy February day but these teachers had a fantastic time uncovering fossils and sharing ideas about bringing Florida’s natural history to life for their students.
These teachers were visiting as part of a professional development field trip offered by the Scientist in Every Florida School (SEFS) program in 2022 through the Thompson Earth Systems Institute.
