The Azadi Tower, known as the Shahyad Tower before the 1979 Revolution, is a structure in Azadi Square in Tehran, Iran. Azadi Tower is the main symbol of Tehran. This tower was designed in 1970 by Hossein Amanat,an Iranian architect, and was built under the management of Mohammad Pourfathi. The Azadi Tower, as a symbol of "modern Iran"and to commemorate the 2,500-year celebrations of the Iranian Empire, was designed and built in the middle of one of the main squares in western Tehran, called the former Shahyad Square and the current Azadi.
