While it’s true that there’s no alphabet in Chinese to guide you on your journey, there is a system that makes things a lot easier; it’s called the radical system, and it’s the key to maximizing your vocabulary recognition and retention rate.
They can help you learn characters easier and faster, and, eventually, you will be able to use them to swiftly memorise new words by knowing how different characters are combined. Chinese radicals is probably the most efficient way to learn Chinese characters. But how exactly do you use them?
They are also building blocks of the Chinese characters and often reflecting some common semantic or phonetic characteristic. Knowing common radicals can greatly help you learn new Chinese characters.
The list compiled here is based on the frequency of the radicals among the 2,000 most commonly used characters. This means that all these radicals are essential. Almost all occur in at least ten characters, most of them in more than that.

As a beginner, you can learn all the radicals on this list without fearing that you’re learning things you don’t actually need. It’s meant to be a solid foundation on which to build.
