Building an iron age roundhouse - thatching the roof. The bushcraft medieval roundhouse roof is now thatched! Join us in the woods as we finish building the roof of the roundhouse, thatching it with water reed and then making a combed straw (long straw) cap to cover the ridge of the bushcraft shelter and make it completely waterproof. It was sketchy work, using the old wooden ladder to climb the roof of the celtic roundhouse and secure the thatch to the timber frame. We get a big fire going and cook up a feast in cast iron dutch ovens. The dogs join us too :)
