If you turn up the volume and listen closely, you’ll hear the male kestrel calling his mate. He caught a vole for her to eat. I think she wanted him to bring it to the nest because she ignored him for a couple minutes, but eventually she left the nest to join him in the next tree for a nice mousy breakfast. (There are 2 calls—the loudest is from a meadow lark. The fainter one is the male kestrel.)
