In this full journey compilation, we document the Shatabdi's progress through the magnificent ghats between Ranchi and Muri, lush green during the monsoons. The Shatabdi twists and turns through these ghats, descending over a 1,000 feet across the Chhota Nagpur Plateau in the process, amidst dense saal forests. Subsequently, the Shatabdi cruises past the steel city of Bokaro, with its massive steel plant. There are few delays and we wait for the Purushottam and Dhanbad Bhubaneshwar Garib Raths before crossing the Damodar river. The monsoons have added a spring in the Damodar's flow and the water can be seen bouncing over the boulders on the river's bed. Finally, cometh the evening, there is a devastating crossing with the Howrah Rajdhani, and a more subdued one with the Sealdah Rajdhani. The Dhanbad Howrah Double Decker has left before us and we engage in a spirited chase, where the 130 kmph Shatabdi catches up with the 110 kmph Double Decker at Bardhaman and calmly overtakes it!
