This video is the culmination of the past 4 to 5 times I’ve been to the coin shop. It’s been hard to find time to make videos because of school but now that it’s summer, I’m excited to be able to make more.

About a month ago on Saturday while I was working, I noticed that there was a unsearched bowl of world coins, sitting out. At the coin shop we pay for junk world coins by weight. It’s often not worth our time to search through bags of foreign coins that are all modern, not silver, and definitely not gold. This bowl looks like it had a bunch of modern junk stuff so it’s likely we paid weight for it. Unfortunately, the person selling the collection didn’t know what they had, because mixed in was a California gold token. I was lucky enough to be able to find it. I asked the coin shop owner is this real gold? They tested it with the x-ray and it turns out it was. They wanted to melt it, but I dug deeper and did some research to figure out exactly what it was. When I figured out it was a California Gold token, the idea of sending it in for grading was brought up. I decided I’d spend $70 out of pocket to get graded it and to keep it as my own. This video is the result of that NGC submission as well as everything else I’ve got from the coin shop since my latest coin shop pickups video.
