For the second year in a row, Lamar opened conference play after going 2-1 in the first portion of non conference action in the season against the Pottsville Apaches. The Apaches entered this game 2-2 in non conference action. This year's edition of the Warriors-Apaches game was much closer than the previous year's, this time with a final score of 30-28 for the Warrior win. The game came down to a potential game winning 42 yard field goal attempt for the Apaches, which ended up being just short. With the win, the Warriors improved to 3-1 overall and 1-0 in conference play while the Apaches fell to 2-3 overall and 0-1 in conference play.

The 2021 Marching Warriors Band was under the direction of Ralph Johnson and under field command of drum major Jade Dillard.
