The women of San Antonio Aguas Calientes are renowned for their complicated and highly valued tight two-faced weave or Brocado technique that produces an identical image on the front and back, double-face weave.

Their weaving and the pattern of the close brocades is the most complicated in the Mayan world. The designs are woven, not embroidered, into the fabric. These huipils are hand woven using traditional cotton thread on a backstrap loom. To make one huipil, it may take five to six months of weaving every day.
