I've noticed that a lot of people who are watching these videos are in their 50s and 60s. If that's you, why not leave a comment and let me know what kinds of videos you'd like to see?

I've spoken about the Optimised Practise Method before. It involves planning what you're going to practise and setting up an interval or HIIT timer. It's a brilliant technique to adopt if you're struggling to commit to a practise routine. I know this, because although I've been playing since I was 12, have a BA (Hons) and Ph. D in music, and have taught the Trinity Drum Kit syllabus for decades, I TOO have found it difficult to fit my practise in alongside being self-employed and having a young family.

When I hear people say "I haven't had time to practise" it's code for I'm disorganised and non-committed to doing regular practise. The great thing about the Optimised Practise Method is that you can start by allocating just 10 minutes a day. It won't be long before you're doubling this amount of time or even trebling it.

So why not start today?

Choose three or four rudiments you want to get good at, e.g., single strokes, double strokes, paradiddles. Set up an interval timer (https://fitlb.com/tabata-timer) for 1 minute work, 20 seconds rest that lasts for a total of about 10-minutes, and start working through your rudiments.
