Medellín is the capital of Colombia’s mountainous Antioquia province. Nicknamed the “City of Eternal Spring” for its temperate weather, it hosts a famous annual Flower Festival. Modern metrocables link the city to surrounding barrios and offer views of the Aburrá Valley below. Sculptures by Fernando Botero decorate downtown's Botero Plaza, while the Museo de Antioquia displays more of the Colombian artist’s work. ― Google

Affluent El Poblado has chic cafes, fashion boutiques, and high-end restaurants amid tall apartment blocks and hotels. Clubs and bars fill the Parque Lleras area, which buzzes at night. The striking Medellín Modern Art Museum hosts exhibitions and screens arthouse films. Huge, upscale shopping malls include Santafé, Oviedo, and El Tesoro. Museo el Castillo occupies a grand castle-style mansion surrounded by gardens. ― Google

Downtown zone La Candelaria is home to Plaza Botero, named for the Colombian artist. Several of his characteristically rotund sculptures stand in the square, with more works on show at the nearby Antioquia Museum. Shops, cafes, and flower sellers line Junín Street, in the shade of the needlelike Coltejer skyscraper. The sensory gardens at Pies Descalzos Park combine interactive art, fountains, and a bamboo forest. ― Google
