What is it like to run an Audi RS7? How much does it cost? And should you buy one? And what should you look out for?

This is my own Audi RS7 C6.1 from 2016. The A7-model was first shown in Munich in 2010 and the RS7-model came in 2013 and was produced for four years.

This is my third RS7. 8 years old, it has just turned 107,000 km. Audi made a small facelift in 2015 and gave it some tweaks to the exterior, added better software and a Nvidia Tegra 3 processor. Even today, at 8 years of age, the car feels pretty up to date. The interior looks very modern and up-to-date, too. The seats look new and everything feels crisp.

The RS7 has a big heart! Its powerful V8 boasts 560 HP and 3993cc with twin turbos. This is a standard engine, but you can easily tune it to 700 HP and some even tuned it to 1000 HP.

Despite the big engine volume and power, the fuel consumption can be quite reasonable if you drive featherfooted, 10l/100 km is easily reached because it can shut off 4 of the 8 cylinders when cruising at 100-130 km/h. But push the accellerator and the consumption jumps to 20l/100 km or more. Typically, I see an average consumption of 14l/100 km. The top speed is 250 km/h and 0-100 km/h takes 3.9 seconds.

Overall, the RS7 is probably Quattro's best work yet. I’ve owned several RS4s, RS5s, RS6s, RSQ8s and two RS7s before this one. In my opinion the RS7 is the pick of the RS models from Audi.

In Switzerland the Audis are sold with a 10-year maintenance package up to 100,000 km, and the Audi dealers do care about their RS-customer if there is a problem.

In general you should expect in excess of 200,000 trouble-free kilometers – because the key issue, which the car was born with, has been fixed by Audis. This was the issue of the oil filters in the turbocharger which caused a number of engines to blow up.

Audi realized this and recalled the all cars with the 3993 cc V8 engine and changed the filters – which by the way is an 8 hour job for a trained technician. This car had the repair work done at 96,000 km.

In total, with some 10,000 km per year, expect the cost to be approx. 7,663 CHF per year excluding fuel but without depreciation. In total it will cost ca. 15,963 CHF per year (incl. depreciation and fuel) to run an RS7. A lot of money but not bad for a super car!

Thank you for watching!
