In this Algebra 1 tutorial, Brett shows you how to factor quadratic trinomials (of the form ax^2+bx+c) where the leading coefficient is equal to one (a=1) into binomials including examples that involve more than one variable and factoring out the greatest common factor first.

Factoring quadratics is one of the most fundamental algebra skills that shows up time and time again as you progress through your math courses. This type of factoring is the reverse of multiplying binomials (aka FOILING). In this lesson, we'll review the foil method before learning how to factor the most common scenario: trinomials with a degree of 2 whose coefficient in front of the squared term is equal to 1. This factoring technique is useful for solving equations as well as determining the roots/zeroes in the study of parabolas and quadratic functions.
