This place was built in 1910 (!!) and my visit was pure magic. It was also my 64th MLB stadium as the St. Louis Cardinals faced the San Francisco Giants in an official regular-season game.

There's SOOOOO much incredible baseball history here in Birmingham, Alabama -- Minor League Baseball, the Negro Leagues, and countless legends including Babe Ruth, Ty Cobb, Rogers Hornsby, Josh Gibson, Satchel Paige, Hank Aaron, Reggie Jackson, Frank Thomas, and course Willie Mays.

Mays was born in Alabama and made his professional debut at Rickwood Field in 1948 with the Birmingham Black Barons. Unfortunately he died just two days before this MLB game was played, so the entire event became a massive tribute to him and a celebration of his life -- along with celebrating the legacy of Negro League Baseball as well.

There was truly NO WAY that I was gonna miss this, and I'm thrilled to be able to share my experience here on YouTube with everyone. (Fun fact: I edited this video myself. I do that sometimes.)

As promised, here's the video from 2017 about my Topps Baseball Cards:

And in case this interests you, here's a list of every MLB stadium that I've attended (along with the number of games I've seen there and the number of the baseballs that I've caught):

This game at Rickwood Field was played on June 20, 2024 -- the 34th anniversary of the first ball I ever snagged at an MLB game. (Shoutout to Shea Stadium, which sucked but I still miss it.) The video was filmed by Rachel Messbauer -- more than 600 clips totaling 35 gigs of footage! Anyone wanna guess how many hours it took to edit this?

By the way, I posted this video out of order because this was too special to wait. I still have older (but not THAT old) videos coming from Tampa, Boston, and Baltimore, so get ready for all of that.

Thanks for watching.

Goodbye for now.
