In early June a pair of Barn Swallows built a nest over the course of a week and laid and incubated four eggs. On July 1st, the eggs began to hatch, and over the next two weeks the chicks were tended to by the pair, fed insects, developed feathers, and arrival of additional Swallows that seemed to help move the chicks along.

Here we see them three weeks after hatching as they, one-by-one, leave the nest (last chick to leave captured on camera). The first chick left the nest early in the morning and perched for a while on a nearby telephone wire. The second left later the same day and, along with the first to leave, stayed close to the nest. The last two stayed in the nest for an additional day before taking to the skies. We have spotted a number of young Swallows hunting over a nearby field and pond.
