Chris Morris directs a potentially controversial comedy about suicide bombers.

Omar, Hassan, Waj, Faisal and Barry are 5 friends who want to make a difference, with no clear direction to go in, their misguided beliefs lead them down a path of terrorism. Their biggest challenge however is total and utter incompetence. At it’s heart, Four Lions is about being pressured into doing things you don’t want to do as most of the group don’t want to kill themselves, but pier-pressure and manipulation forces them into it.

While potential callous, the film portrays each of the characters as individual people and we understand why they are in the situation the are in. Rather than condemning terrorists, the film unpacks the situation of the war on terror and recognises the incompetence from all parties including the police investigating the group. With a hilarious script an and honest depiction of the situation, makes Four Lions not controversial in the slightest.
