"Ne Morabettite" - originally credited to be in the Ragam Rupavati in any Saint Thyagaraja textbook - has an extraordinary version in Thodi. Passed on to Brindamma by Kanchipuram Nayana Pillai during her early days of tutelage under him in the 1930s, "Morabettite" paints an absolutely exotic picture of Thodi, with its bouncy Mishra Chapu gait and piquant sangathis. The DK Pattammal sampradaya also preserves this song in Thodi.
