During Project Restart in the 2019/2020 Premier League season, teams were allowed to use 5 substitutions per match, as long as players were introduced on no more than 3 separate occasions.
For the 2020-2021 & 2021-2022 Premier League seasons, the subs rule reverted back to its original 3.
However for the 2022-2023 Premier League season, it has been announced that moving forward 5 subs per match will become the norm.
This video looks at which teams utilised this rule during Project Restart, & the potential positives & negatives which this rule change provides.
