Waterloo Rocketry has made great progress towards the development of the first liquid rocket ever to launch from Canada, Borealis, and LSF1, was the first successful full duration static fire for our new liquid engine, Eridium, on December 3rd, 2023.

The oxidizer was nitrous oxide, and the fuel was ethanol with a 4% boric acid mix for that amazing green flame! Another cool feature of this engine was a newly researched ablative liner.

The peak thrust was 6.6kN, with a peak of 450 psi in the combustion chamber, and the burn lasted about 4 seconds.

This was our last test at our Columbia Lake test site. It's been a crucial test site for our engine development over the past couple of years, and we'll be moving our test site to a new location soon.

Overall, the test was a successful demonstration of the feasibility of the team's new liquid rocket engine. Our next step is finalizing a design to get the engine flight-ready, with another static fire of a flight-like engine later in early 2024, in preparation for the 2024 Launch Canada competition this summer.
