Some years back I was commissioned to design and build the baffles and metal support structures for Hawthorne Audio’s “Reference Series” of finished open baffle speakers. HA was one of the first companies to market open baffle specific drivers and sold mainly raw drivers to DIY enthusiasts.
This particular model, of which only one pair was built, was called The Grand Tetons. This pair also included a matching center channel.
HA chose the drivers and designed the passive crossovers using active modeling. They supplied me with the drivers, assembled crossovers and cabling. In this case the cabling was Grover Huffman wire.
I designed and built the baffles as well as designing and supplying the accompanying metal support structures which were built for me by Hedwall Architectural Iron. I also final-assembled, tested, crated and shipped the finished speakers.
There were two other models in the “Reference Series” The Rainier and The Rainier MKII.

Not only were these a lot of fun to build, they were exceptionally good sounding speakers due in no small part to the wide range AMT in a cast wave-guide.
