This is a Motormouth couple car video covering the newly released JD Power and Associates Initial Quality Study following 99,000 new cars for 90 days. The study is based this year on responses from 99,144 purchasers and lessees of new 2024 model year vehicles who were surveyed after 90 days of ownership. For the first time, the study incorporates repair visit data based on hundreds of thousands of real world event reports. This extra data allows automakers the ability to quickly identify potential issues before they become bigger problems. The industry average is 195 problems per 100 vehicles. Mass market brands beat the industry average with a combined average of 181 PP100 and premium brands often with more complicated systems average is 232 PP100. According to JD Power, most believe battery electric vehicles and PHEVs should be less problematic and require fewer repairs than gas models, however new repair data shows BEVs as well as plug-in hybrids require more repairs in all categories. The data shows owners are experiencing problems that need dealership attention at a rate three times higher than that of gas vehicles. Gas and diesel vehicles averaged 180 PP100 this year while BEVs are 86 points higher at 266 PP100. There is no difference between Tesla and other manufacturer’s BEVs in quality, in the past Tesla performed better but not this year. Tesla customers are complaining about the removal of traditional feature controls such as turn signals and wiper stalks. Key Findings: Owners are frustrated and are becoming more irritated by false warnings with driver assist technology and safety features. There are problems with Apple Carplay and Android Auto, it remains a top ten problem and vehicle owners want this feature to be integrated wirelessly. In vehicle controls are out of control. Features, controls and displays is the second most problematic area. Unpleasant interior smell is another issue. Problem odors are coming from air conditioning and heating. Every brand has had an increase in unpleasant smells except Kia and Nissan.
