How Has Music Listening Evolved? How Did Spotify Save the Music Industry? | CDTeam Why?

The most-watched videos on YouTube are often music-related. You can see that they all relate to music. We can listen to a song and, even if we don't understand the lyrics, still enjoy it. Music has been around for thousands of years, but the music industry only began in the latter half of the 20th century.

To trace the origins of this industry, we must go back even further, to the late 19th century. In 1887, Thomas Alva Edison introduced his first invention, a hand-cranked phonograph. Edison helped us enjoy music without needing to be present at live performances.

However, it wasn't until the 1930s that the advent of the record player made music playback devices more common. By the 1950s, the vinyl record industry experienced explosive growth.
