Resident Evil 4’s frantic village battle is in my mind the best opening encounter not just in Capcom's Resident Evil series, but in any videogame full stop.

Its combination of what was at the time a brand-new perspective for Resident Evil 4, enemies more dynamic than those in any prior Resident Evil entry and the wealth of gameplay options on offer made Resident Evil 4 something far, far ahead of its time.

In this video, I analyse everything from Resident Evil 4's level design and gameplay to its story, setting and atmosphere, to try and explain why Capcom's classic is such a unique experience.
